Learn To Sail
Learn To Sail With Niagara
Don't know how to sail? We can get you started. At NOLSC, our CYA approved team of instructors will show you the ropes, and have you going in no time. Whether you're young or old, this is where you can start.
The Junior Program
In order to participate in the junior program, all sailors must be between the ages of 10 and 16, and for safety reasons, have the ability to swim at least 50m. Students wishing to learn to sail can begin in July or August, and choose to participate in the 4 or 8 week program.
Our junior sailing program teaches kids how to sail, while having fun and meeting new people. Our sailing school meets all requirements set forth by the Canadian Yachting Association, in the white, bronze and silver programs.
Our professional instructors are trained through the CYA's Instruction Certification Program. They are trained in first aid, swimming, coaching theory, boat rescue, motor boat handling and a high level of sailing skills.
White Sail (1 Month) $595.00 - 4 weeks 9 am - 4 pm Monday - Friday For kids interested in learning the basics of sailing, White Sail levels 1-3 are for them. Here students learn the basics of sailing, including theory, boat handling, rigging, terminology, teamwork, and safety. Students learn the basic skills of racing, and pit their skills against each other in many small races.
Bronze Sail (1 Month) $675 - 4 weeks 9 am - 4 pm Monday - Friday Bronze Sail levels 4-5 teach students more advanced sailing skills. Here they learn on more advanced boats, which are much less forgiving, but a lot more fun! Students will learn about the technical theory and physics of sailing, and learn about spinaker handling. Students will have the chance to travel to regattas outside the Club, and compete against hundreds of other junior sailors from around the lake.
Silver Sail (2 Months) $675.00/month - 8 weeks in total 9 am - 4pm Monday - Friday Silver Sail level 6 is the second most advanced sailing program offered at NOLSC. Silver is about racing and advanced boat handling. Students learn precise race tactics, and learn how to perfect every aspect of their skill. Students will compete in many races outside of the Club, and gain a lot of experience. Silver is a two-month program, opposed to the one-month programs of Bronze and White Sail.
Gold Sail (2 Months) $700.00/month - 8 weeks in total 9 am - 4pm Monday - Friday Gold sail is the newest and most advanced junior sailing program offered at NOLSC. Our Club is one of the few that offers this elite program, and at a fraction of the cost of others. Gold Sail VII is the highest level of sailing offered by the Canadian Yachting Association. Focusing on advanced sail theory, fluid mechanics and sailing kinetics, this level prepares sailors for racing at national and international events. Topics such as tides and currents, tactics, and mental preparation are also introduced as key components of the course. This level is run as a two-month program and is highly recommended for those wishing to pursue a future in sailing.
